The Translation Games are a unique initiative that has been a cornerstone of the academic and professional translation landscape in Canada for almost two decades. In addition to being an inter-university translation competition and a colloquium on translation studies, it’s an opportunity to network with peers, researchers in the field, potential employers and future colleagues.
Participating in the Games is an academically and socially enriching experience. The event is a stage for showcasing excellence in translation, providing an unparalleled opportunity for students, teachers and professionals in the field to meet, collaborate and go head-to-head in a friendly competition.
The Games emphasize the importance of creativity, teamwork, the sharing of knowledge and a love for translation, through scientific papers and team events, which range from translating songs to adapting advertisements and audiovisual content.
At the end of the event, four prizes are awarded:
▷ the Games Cup, awarded to the team that wins the most challenges
▷ two prizes for individual translations, one for translation into English and one for translation into French
▷ the “Gerry,” a prize awarded by the Games hasbeens to the team that best represents the “spirit of the Games,” through its dynamism, team spirit and camaraderie
